BODY & APPEARANCE

1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
5'9". Shoulders out to there. Solid like brick.

2. How old is he?
Eighteen is our best bet.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Upright and proper. Carries himself with a set purpose and a fair level of confidence.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
In good health. Athletic. Wears glasses, but considering he doesn't wear them proper, there's a high chance he's far-sighted.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Again, with purpose. He moves like there's always something important to do, and he ought to have been there 15 seconds ago exactly.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Conventionally attractive, if that's how you go. He doesn't think too much of his own looks; it's just him.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Got some tan going there. He's the kind that burns before he tans, life's really hard. There is one prominent scar on his forehead, just above his right brow.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Bubblegum pink, my god. Hangs straight down when unstyled. He usually wears a bandanna to keep the worst of it in line.

9. What color are his eyes?
Black.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
You mean besides his hair and scar? The bandannas he favours tend to lean toward bright, bold colours.

11. What are his chief tension centers?
Hands, the corners of his eyes.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
His wardrobe primarily consists of uniforms. Anything other than navy standard is utilitarian in colour and style. Think monochrome slacks and an ocean of white shirts/jackets. The only splash of non-regulation colour he sports is, again, the bandanna.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
He works and moves very easily in his usual outfit; it's probable that he prefers the navy uniform over casual wear.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
The only real difference between Business Coby and Casual Coby is that he takes off the captain's overcoat. That's about it.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Briefs, my dude. Briefs.

SPEECH

1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Leaning more toward the higher octaves, like his voice hasn't completely broken yet.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Evenly-paced. When worked up or excited, he talks in a rush, like there are too many words to speak in a too-short amount of time.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Immensely polite language. Please, and thank you, and yes sir and no sir, as befitting of his rank and station or the lack thereof in that particular situation. He enunciates his words to a crisp point.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
The common language of One Piece, which is debatable at best. Is it english? Is it japanese? Is it some involved pidgin of the two? Who knows. Whatever it is, he's very fluent in it.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Good impromptu speaker. When he really wants to make a point, he will have to step back to think over his words.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Not necessarily eloquent, but he is very articulate. Think as if someone were spewing out a university essay at you, only it had to do with the situation at hand.

When angered or really worked up, there is a higher chance he'll splutter and stutter and trip over his own words.

MENTAL & EMOTIONAL

1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
My lord, let me tell you about this boy's intellect. Even for being a timid chore boy as a kid, he knew enough about the world to know what Luffy was getting on about in regards to the One Piece itself. He's book smart like reading's going out of style. Recent years have him upping his practical application game.

Need a random fact about the world? Ask Coby. He your boy.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
A little of both. When it comes to information retention and recovery, he seems to do it with little thought. Larger plans do necessitate a longer planning process.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Logical and practical, though most of everything he is now is rooted in his own brand of idealism.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
He probably started out with a basic one, enough to read and write. The rest didn't come until he enlisted with the navy, but boy, was that an accelerated course of study.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Judiciary. Sea navigation. Geography. Applied combat skills. Everything a naval captain ought to know, and everything an admiral hopeful needs to know to even consider the position. At present moment, upping his fighting ability is a big priority. Can't be a captain if you can't throw a decent punch on these seas.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
More of an introvert, but his job does require that he at least pretends to be an extrovert.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Very even-tempered, incredibly patient. Cheerful and optimistic, regardless where he is in life. Driven like nobody's business, mmm boy.

8. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act. Can't afford to stand back and wait for something to happen.

9. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Flight, but you can bet he sure is working on turning it over.

10. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Stunted. He's pretty serious-minded; any jokes or pranks would have to be initiated by someone else for him to join in.

11. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
PTSD, oh boy. Why deal with it when you can work work work non-stop? Down-time? Who needs down-time? What a silly concept.

12. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
He's got a couple major turning points in his life, and some of those are very closely tied to one (1) Monkey D. Luffy.
i. The day Luffy saved his pudge ass from the Alvida Pirates, thus inspiring him forever more.
ii. Coby's first glimpse of the world's navy as it stands now, and coming to understand how truly warped it's become from the ideal it's painted for itself.
iii. Marineford.

13. What does he fear?
Not living up to both his and Luffy's expectations. Wasting the opportunity given to him. Failing to achieve his dream.

14. What are his hopes or aspirations?
To become a marine worthy of standing up to Luffy. To become an Admiral, one of the strongest fighters in the navy's ranks. To reform the navy and drag up the real meaning of 'justice' from the dirt and silt it's been buried under.

You know, little things.

15. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He's pretty open about himself, but he doesn't talk too much about his time on Alvida's ship. It was a rough time. Even Helmeppo had no clue about it until Luffy brought it up.

Thanks, dude.

RELATIONSHIPS

1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Helmeppo and Garp are the closest people he has to family. Nothing's really known about his actual family, and it's probable that Alvida's crew wiped his village off the map. Tough luck.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Besides Luffy? Helmeppo. The first time they met, 'Meppo held a gun to Coby's head with intent to shoot. It was a great time.

Boy, pick better friends.

6. Does he have other close friends?
Helmeppo and Luffy. That's it. That is literally it. You can't really look at your ranked superior as a friend, so. That's it.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
At this point, he probably doesn't have the time to make friends. Climbing the ranks is a full-time job in itself, and when your job is your life, well.

Yeah.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Friends. Definitely friends.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, unmarried, never been in a relationship before.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Uh. Canon evidence strongly suggests that he had/has it bad for Luffy. It's. Look. Okay.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Who said he's lookin'.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Hell no.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Funnily enough, Luffy and Helmeppo are not only his friends, but rivals. He's pretty much sworn to Luffy's face that he'll wreck his shit in the future. In Helmeppo's case, though, it's a one-sided affair. 'Meppo's got the rivalry hots going. Coby ain't takin' none of that.

Enemies? Do you mean: Iron Mace Alvida?

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Work. My lord I don't think he's ever given it any thought. If anything, he ranges anywhere from a 3 to X.

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Not important at all. Got a job to do.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
N/A

BELIEFS

1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Taurus. Ohhhh boy is he ever a Taurus.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
So far as we've been shown, he's none of this. His major driving point in his life, right now, seems to be centered on the navy and his own sense of justice.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Sure does. It actually came into place at a young age, but it wasn't until Luffy came into his life that he started following it. At this point, it would take a cataclysm within the navy to knock him off-course.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He's pretty tolerant of it. Luffy's a damn pirate jonesing to be the King of Pirates, but they still friends anyway. If it's something strange and new, he'll approach it with curiosity. Ain't got time or space for intolerance.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Despite accepting Luffy's dreams of being the big pirate boss, there's a solid reason Coby went out of his way to join the navy. After his run-in with Alvida, wanting to bring pirates to justice is only natural, right. Same goes for criminals. Corrupt officers in the navy? Them too.

DAILY LIFE

1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Comfortable in his station. Being a captain has its perks.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Surprisingly high. A naval captain commands a certain level of respect. Despite the fact that it only took him two years to reach his current standing, it hasn't inflated his ego very much. Bless his humble little heart.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
When at port, he has his own living quarters to settle in, however small they may be. When at sea, he has a cabin to call his own. It's probable that he shares both with Helmeppo, depending on space available.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Books and maps. Probably a new bandanna every two years. Who even knows. He might just have a ridiculous amount of money saved up, he has so few material desires.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Marine captain. It's his life's dream, so you tell me.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Reading. Studying. Training. This is all assuming he has free-time that isn't taken up by work-related activities.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
PROPER NUTRITION. He eats like a beast, but he tries to keep it balanced. Meals are occasionally (frequently) skipped on account of duties. Coffee is a life-saver.
